Visitors and residents can now enjoy another work of public art in Venice! The Red Butterfly, by artist lugufelo, has been installed near the gazebo at West Blalock Park. To learn more about the project, please see the Artist Statement below.
Additional public art in the park depicts Florida’s native wildlife including a sea turtle, manatee, Florida panther, and tarpon created by artist Thomas Prochnow. The park is also the home of the Monty Andrews Arboretum, an Accredited Arboretum, with numerous specimens of labeled trees and palms to explore, among other specialized planted areas.
Visit the park and arboretum at 401 Pensacola Road, Venice, FL 34285 (across the street from the Venice Museum), just a few blocks from downtown Venice.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am more than thrilled to share that the Red Butterfly has found its permanent home at Blalock Park, marking a new chapter for my sculpture in this beautiful community space.
With heartfelt gratitude and deep humility, I extend my sincerest thanks to Monty Andrews and the City of Venice for graciously accepting this donation. Your support has made it possible for the Red Butterfly to take its place in this wonderful park, where it can be enjoyed by all who visit. We are truly honored to contribute to the cultural fabric of Venice in such a meaningful way.
The Red Butterfly is more than just a sculpture; it’s a symbol of transformation, hope, and renewal, capturing the delicate balance between strength and fragility, and reflecting the beauty and resilience found in nature. Now standing proudly in Blalock Park, the Red Butterfly invites all who see it to embrace change and find inspiration in the world around us, while gracefully challenging the conventional and bringing a vibrant energy to its surroundings—truly a testament to the power of art to uplift and inspire.
It is our hope that this sculpture not only enhances the park’s beauty but also touches the hearts of those who encounter it.
