About Jacob T. Stott
Jacob Stott displayed an interest in music at an early age, teaching himself to read music and play piano at age six. He had his first piano pupil at age sixteen.
Mr. Stott received a B.A. in Piano from Rhode Island College, and an M.M. in Harpsichord/Early Music from the Longy School of Music . Teachers include: Salvatore Fransosi, Judith Lynn Stillman, Stephen Martorella, Henri St. Louis, Pamela Cook-Sobel, Peter Sykes, Frances Conover Fitch, and Dana Maiben.
Mr. Stott is the Organist and Director of Music Programs at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrington. In 2017, Mr. Stott helped to co-found the Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s. He performs with the orchestra several times per season.
Aside from accompanying and collaborating with local soloists, and artists, such as Sarah Potenza, Mr. Stott has given lectures, master classes, and recitals at the Lyndon Institute, in Lyndonville Vermont, Rising Tide Academy, Plymouth, the Chopin Club, the Chaminade Club, at Marble House and the Breakers in Newport, as well as various other venues throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
With his love of music from diverse cultures and historical time periods, Jacob specializes in keyboard music of the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, 16th and 17th century Dutch/Flemish keyboard music, 18th century Iberian keyboard music, Gregorian, Mozarabic, Ambrosian chant, in addition to Maronite Chant in the Syriac Tradition. He has published articles on Gregorian Chant performance practice, as well as a serial article on the History of the Pipe Organ in the Roman Catholic Liturgy. Jacob is a consultant for the Syriac Music Institute.
Mr. Stott has served on the faculty at the Community College of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College.
